Flange-Mount Roller Bearing Units
Flange mounted bearings, also called flange block bearings, are a combined housing and bearing that provides a ready-to-use product. The bearing housing may have two or four mounting holes predrilled into the casting for simplified installation. There are several types of rolling element that may be installed in the flanged housing, including self-aligning, roller, and ball bearings. When choosing flanged bearings, consider the environment in which the bearing is used and the load and alignment requirements of the application, which may require corrosion resistant materials or a configuration that accommodates misalignment.A flange bearing has a mounting mechanism with a face perpendicular to the direction of the bore. The flange may be the machined or cast protruding lip of a bushing, or it may be a type of bearing housing with bolt holes in the casting to accommodate mounting. One-piece flange bearings simplify the alignment of a plain bearing pressed into a casting and prevent it from being forced out from one direction.
